Ribeye Steak Recipe - How To Cook a ribeye steak
List of Ingredients:
- One bone-in or boneless ribeye steak, approximately 2 lbs. and 2 inches thick
- Kosher salt
- Freshly ground black pepper
- 1 tablespoon of extra-virgin olive oil
- 2 tablespoons of unsalted butter
- Three lightly smashed garlic cloves
- Two to three sprigs of fresh thyme
- Two to three sprigs of fresh rosemary
- Flaky sea salt
Step 1
Place the steak on a plate and generously season it with salt and freshly ground black pepper. Allow the steak to sit for up to 30 minutes, allowing it to reach room temperature.
Step 2
In a large cast-iron skillet over medium-high heat, heat the olive oil until it becomes very hot. Add the steak to the skillet and cook for approximately 6 to 7 minutes, until a deep crust forms on the bottom side.
Step 3
Gently flip the steak over and continue cooking it undisturbed for an additional 6 minutes.
Step 4
Lower the heat to medium-low and introduce the unsalted butter, smashed garlic cloves, fresh thyme, and rosemary into the skillet. Keep cooking, using a spoon to continuously coat the steak with the melted butter at the pan's base. Halfway through cooking, flip the steak. Continue this process until the steak reaches medium-rare doneness (around 120°F or 49°C), taking approximately 5 more minutes.
Step 5
Transfer the cooked steak to a cutting board and allow it to rest for about 10 minutes before you start slicing. Just before serving, sprinkle the steak with flaky sea salt to enhance its flavors.
